The R4 can be bought at a cheap price of $6 and could play most DS games on Nintendo DS and DS Lite. But unfortunately, it can’t play DSi and 3DS games. Also, it can play new games and could automatically loads the last game you played but it doesn’t have the benefit of Bootloader updates that allow a Nintendo 3DS R4 and R4i Flash Cards to work on new 3DS/DSi models, even if you update it’s firmware. Without this capability, if you update a Nintendo 3DS R4 and R4i Flash Cards firmware, it will never work on the 3DS/DSi model ever again. Lastly, It cannot block the anti-piracy technology, doesn’t have Real Time anything, slow motion Free cheats and Special Homebrew.
Old / Original version R4 cards are NOT compatible with Nintendo 3DS or the DSi. For use on the modern consoles please choose R4i SDHC or R4 3DS flash cartridges!

Bear in mind that for playing commercial DS ROMS from R43DS cards to be legal you need to own the original games if you want to use the backup copies with the Nintendo R4 3DS flashcards. If you don't own the original game cartridges please choose to play Freeware or Homebrew games. In many countries it is illegal to play the backup copies because of piracy.
R4i Gold and R4i DSN for 3DS
